In an era where apps collect endless amounts of personal data, we built Letter Star with a different philosophy: your data is yours, not ours.

No Email, No Problem

Unlike most competitive platforms, Letter Star doesn’t require:

  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Social media connection
  • Personal information of any kind

Just choose a username and start playing. That’s it.

Device Verification Without Tracking

So how do we prevent cheating without collecting personal data? We use Apple’s App Attest technology.

What is App Attest?

App Attest is Apple’s framework for verifying that:

  1. Your app is genuine (not modified)
  2. Requests come from a real device
  3. The device hasn’t been jailbroken

Importantly, it does all this without identifying you personally.

How It Works

  1. Your device generates a cryptographic key pair
  2. Apple’s servers attest to your device’s authenticity
  3. Game results are signed with your device key
  4. Our servers verify the signature without knowing who you are

Your device is verified, but you remain anonymous.

What Data Do We Store?

We only store what’s necessary for the leaderboards:

  • Your chosen username
  • Game statistics (scores, times, guesses)
  • Device attestation tokens (cryptographic, not personal)

We never store:

  • IP addresses (beyond temporary rate limiting)
  • Location data
  • Device identifiers that could track you
  • Any personally identifiable information

Anti-Cheat That Respects Privacy

Our anti-cheat system looks for:

  • Impossible solve times
  • Suspicious patterns
  • Invalid device signatures

But it does this through:

  • Statistical analysis
  • Cryptographic verification
  • Pattern recognition

Not through:

  • Tracking your behavior
  • Monitoring your device
  • Collecting personal data

Open By Design

We believe in transparency:

  • Our privacy policy is clear and concise
  • We don’t share data with third parties
  • We don’t sell data (we don’t have data to sell!)
  • All API endpoints are documented
